Welcome to the World, Emily Elizabeth!

Thank you all for your kind e-mails, wishes, and congratulations! Our little bundle of joy, Emily Elizabeth Leonard, born on August 26th at 12:05 AM, is now home with us. Before I write more, I should make a correction . . . . Emily was 8 lbs 5 oz and 20.5 inches at birth. In her 36 hours of life outside of the womb, she has been mostly sleeping and eating. But she does have her intervals of looking at the world around her, taking in all that she can through her little blue eyes. Ben, at this point, thinks she takes after my mother's side of the family. She has really long fingers and toes, lean legs, and a more delicate build than her older sister, Katie.

The journey for Emily to arrive was rather long. Labor lasted 28 hours and culminated in a cesarean. Kudos to my doctor for doing everything in his power to help me have a natural birth! I am grateful to him, God, and Ben for walking with me in what was a rather arduous journey. Regardless of the process, we have a precious little girl who we have welcomed with open arms.

Katie met baby Emily yesterday and proceeded to name her little Colsanitas bear, Emy. According to my mom who has been visiting and helping us these last few weeks, Emy bear now needs to sleep with Katie. It is very sweet!
Since arriving home this afternoon, Katie has wanted to hold Emily, and of course, touch, put extra blankets on, and just be near her little sister. Life is changing rapidly for Katie, but I trust as we take it day by day, we'll adjust to be being a familyof four.

Here are some pictures from the last few days. The more recent ones were taken at home and in the hospital. The older ones were from a trek up Monserate while we were waiting for labor to begin. Enjoy!

What a BEAUTIFUL little girl! I am SOOOOO bummed I havent gotten a chance to talk with you since her arrival, but I will call as soon as I have a few moments without the kids demanding my attention and its not the middle of the night for you! I tried calling 100 times to your hospital room, but the phonelines were a mess. What a long LONG labor. I am glad she was born healthy and Sarah you are such a trouper to endure such a long attempt at a VBAC!Congratulations on a beautiful baby! I cant wait to see more pictures!

Congratulations... what a beautiful family. Sarah... you are truly amazing to have moved so gracefully through your labour -- and as you say, the most amazing thing is that Emily is here. She is gorgeous and looks so alert already. Oh we all cannot wait to meet her and to see you and give you all huge. Katie seems to have taken on her big sister role with enthusiasm... just they way she approaches all things in life. I am so happy for all four of you... and glad that Grandma Helen can be here to offer a helping hand while you settle into your new life... breath by breath, moment by moment... each forming the memories that make our life magic.
We love you all!!!

What a perfect addition to your family. Emily is quite precious!
Sarah, I'm so thankful you and Emily are well after a long labor. It sounds like Katie is stepping into her big sister role already. I hope you all get some rest in the midst of all the happy changes.

Love, Paulina
