Nap Time with Daddy

After an exciting morning getting blood tests to see if Katie's A+ is at odds with my A- blood and having three vaccinations, Katie settled in for a snuggly nap in Daddy's lap. Both she and Daddy can't get enough of each other! (Click on the photo if you want to enlarge it.)

Make Way for the Princess!

Well, our little princess has arrived! And she arrived just in time for Daddy's 40th birthday! Here's the abbreviated story: My water broke and frequent contractions began around 10 PM on Tuesday, September 25th. The doctor arrived about 3 AM and the midwive follwed shortly thereafter for what might have been a home birth. By 10 AM the next morning, I had been dilated to 8 cm for several hours with intense contractions and the baby was in the wrong position with no signs of wanting to move. The doctor felt we should go to the hospital to have an epidural to see if we could move things along. Still no progress!! And Katie was starting to show signs of distress. So . . . at about 2 PM, they wheeled me in to surgery to perform a C-section. At 2:46, little Katie entered with world with a lusty cry, a head full of brown hair, and her daddy's blue eyes. Exhausted we are, but full of joy! What greater gift could either Ben or I have asked for!

The Final Countdown

Two days and counting! Ben and I wake up every morning wondering if today is the day. While I seem to have quite the abdominal workout each night with Braxton Hicks contractions, my contractions are still irregular and vary in intensity. Judging from little Katie's kicks, though, she is feeling a bit cramped and ready for life on the outside. We'll see what today holds! Meanwhile, here's a big momma picture taken yesterday. We'll keep you posted!
